As the girls swim team continues to push through the regular season schedule, the focus begins to turn to the championship portion of the season that includes the conference championship meet, regional meet, and the state meet at the Marshalltown YMCA. “This team has been aiming for the end of this season since they were putting in more work in the weight room and pool back in the Spring” Coach Weber adds, “we want to finish off our regular season strong with a first ever home win against rival Roosevelt, and winning the conference championship meet for the third straight year.”
Ahead of the final two dual meets of the season is the annual Pink in the Pool Invite at Lincoln, an invitational that is heading in to its 22nd year, and the seventh as being renamed in honor of all those affected by breast cancer. The invite is Saturday, 9/28, and the final two meets are at home on 10/1 against Roosevelt, and 10/15 against East.
Coach Weber believes the last two weeks have pushed his team to perform well at the end of the season, “we went through six swim meets in fourteen days, and posted our highest daily yardage totals in practice during that span, choosing rather to go all in for the conference, regional, and state meets this year.” During that span the team was able to win dual meets against Carroll, Hoover/North, SE Polk and Indianola, plus take second at the Marshalltown Invite, taking their overall record to 5-2 on the season.
The Rails would love to see a ton of maroon and gold in the stands on 9/28, 10/1, and 10/15!
