Why is Qualifying Important?
Many may be wondering why qualifying for either (or both) of these meets is a big deal. There are several reasons, but the top three are:

  1. These meets represent the chance for the athletes to compete at a high level against other swimmers. It allows them to see the type competition they’ll face at high school swim meets.
  2. The environment is second to none! We can’t replicate the chance to swim in a college pool with thousands of fans at our average club/USA meet. This is a chance for swimmers to experience a big meet on a big stage as continued practice for regionals/districts meets (and state too!)
  3. Team performance and awareness improves. The SDMS/Rails coaches and athletes work incredibly hard for several months out of the year and this is a chance to showcase that hard work. Most other club teams run their practices with less coaches, no off-season practice plans, etc. When SDMS qualifies (and finishes well) at these big meets, it truly reinforces that hard work DOES pay off and in a big way!
