Full Details about the Regionals Meet & After-Meet Party

The Iowa High School Girls’ Regional meet is just a few days away! This meet is what every season is ultimately all about, because it’s where the athletes have the chance to qualify for state. Below are some more details about the Regional meet, how state qualification works and the fun evening planned following the meet.

Regional Meet Details
Diving Regional: The Rails head to Johnston’s Summit Middle School. The meet will start at 5:00PM on Thursday, October 29. Seven judges are used for this meet (3 officials and four coaches).  The meet should end between 8:00PM and 9:00PM.

Swimming Regional: The Rails head to SE Polk High School. The meet will start at 11:45AM/12:00PM on Saturday, October 31. However, the stands are rather limited and will fill by 11AM. We encourage all Rails swimming fans to:

  • Be at the pool by 11AM
  • Sit together (for collective cheering power and team support)
  • Wear your fan T-shirts (old or new)
  • Take photos (we hope it’s a memorable day!)
  • Have fun! (It’s what everyone’s worked so hard for all season)

The meet should end between 3:30PM and 4:00PM.

Regional After-Meet Party
The After-Meet Party will be held at the Bennett’s house in Norwalk, IA. The party is a chance to celebrate the Regional swim meet results and to wait for the state qualifiers announcement TOGETHER. This has been a team tradition for at least 14 years.

Dinner will be provided and is for all members of the swim/dive team (not just the Regional swimmers) and their families. Dinner will be served around 5:30PM. Plan to head to the Bennett’s house immediately following the meet (though if a quick stop at home is needed for a change of clothes, we understand). The party should conclude by 7:00PM and all are welcome to head their separate ways. Many times the girls do something together following the party.

Menu
Main Dish: Saucy Southerner Sandwiches (chopped smoked pork, beef and turkey simmered in BBQ sauce – from Hickory Park in Ames) – Provided by the Bennetts
Side Dishes/Dessert Items: Please bring one to share. Some ideas include: meat & cheese tray, apples & caramel dip, cheesy potatoes, chips & dip, pasta salad, fruit, baked beans, cornbread, cookies, cupcakes and other dessert items.

Lemonade, tea, cups, plates, napkins, silverware and other similar items will also be provided by the Bennetts.

We hope to see everyone there! Please reference the email Coach Weber sent for exact address and phone numbers to reach the Bennett’s with questions.

State Qualification
Diving: Only the top 30 scores dove at the Regional meets (which are held across the state) will qualify for the State meet. We’ll know tentative qualifiers around 9-10PM on Thursday night. In the event that the Rails have a chance to send multiple divers to state, we’ll gather at a restaurant (TBD) to wait for news. Good luck to Erica, Jolynn and Kristina!

Swimming: In each event, only the fastest 24 times swam at the Regional meets (which are held across the state) will qualify for the State Meet. Tentative qualifiers will be known Saturday night between 5-7PM. The team will find out together if the Rails are headed to Marshalltown at the After-Meet Party (see details above). The Rails have sent at least one qualifier to 13 of the last 14 meets. Good luck Rails!!
