Meet The Seniors: Alex Bennett
We’ll be introducing our senior class a little differently. Each girl will have a spotlight article about them, their memories, coaches’ comments and more. All of these posts will lead up to our Senior Night meet in October. Up first: Alex Bennett!
Alex has been a part of swimming for a long time! In fact, she joined the club swim team when there were only 3 other swimmers. As a freshman, Alex was an important Varsity swimmer. She swam the distance events most of her high school career. But as a senior, she’s blossomed into a strong sprinter as well, swimming the 100 Free in addition to the 200 Free and 500 Free. Read more about Alex below.
Years on the team: 4 years
Years spent swimming: 8.5 years competitively
Biggest Swimming Accomplishment: TBD. But for now, it’s living through the distance workouts!
Favorite Win: 2012 LHS Invite. We had a great meet from the start! And pushed the coaches in at the end!
Favorite Swimming Quote(s): “There’s enough water in the pool already. Quit crying, put your head down and swim.”
Message For the Team: Don’t get out-touched and never give up.
Coach’s Comments: “It’s been exciting watching Alex grow up in our program. She’s been with us for nine years. I remember the ISU vs. Iowa football bets dating back to when she was 10 years old! The time seems like it’s gone by so fast. I hope she’s able to finish her high school career swimming in the state pool at Marshalltown, a well-earned reward for all her hard work and team leadership.
– Brayton Weber, Head Coach
Additional High School Activities: Band (section leader), National Honor Society (NHS), National Council of Youth Leadership (NCYL), mentoring, and being a D.A.R.E. role model
Favorite TV Shows and/or Movies: Smallville, Ironman and all Disney movies!
Future Plans: Attending ISU for college
Last comments: I can still remember my first meet. I was 10 years old and nervous! Brayton let me swim the 25 Free (I got 36.73) and the 25 Back (I got 37.18)!
