State Meet Tips and Tricks

We’d love to see our fans at State supporting the girls. But the State meet can be a crazy atmosphere so we’ve shared some tips and tricks to help out!  The state meet kicks off Friday (11/2) at 5:00PM for diving. Admission is $8 for each portion of the meet. Wristbands will be issued instead of tickets and must be worn for the entire meet. However – if you can’t make the drive, you can watch the entire meet online for free.

The state swimming qualifiers and coaches will leave Lincoln at 8:00 a.m. to be at Marshalltown by 9:00 a.m.  Fans will be let into the YMCA gym at 9:00 a.m. This is where the line will begin to form until fans are let into the pool area at 11:00 a.m. to get seats. Of course, fans may be lining up outside before being let into the gym. We’ve heard stories of families being there as early a 6AM! More official details can be found below.

Seating Tips & Tricks

Arrive early! Keep in mind State is PACKED! From the parking to the stands!  If you’d like to sit in a group, you must arrive early and stay together in the gym.  The coaches and state swimmers can’t save seats before the facility is open and you won’t be able to save seats for others that arrive later. Police officers and staff don’t allow it. Remember, over 5000 people will be coming to watch the meet.

Head to the far side of the stands!  We encourage our parents and fans to sit on the opposite side of the entrance. So walk past the pool and go sit above the state swimmers. You can view a layout of the facility to get a sense of direction. This strategy has worked well in the past.

Saturday Evening

Following the State Meet all fans and swimmers are encouraged to meet up at the Okaboji Grill on SE 14th St. Everyone usually arrives straight from Marshalltown around 4:30pm. Even if you can’t make the drive to the meet, we would love to see you there!

The large gathering room has been rented so all parents, families and swimmers can sit together, relax, and hopefully celebrate a couple of school records being broken. Plus there’s a bonfire at the Harrison’s after dinner for all the swimmers!

Official Rules & Information from the Association

The general public will be admitted into the facility through the northwest pool doors at 4:00 p.m. (Friday) and 11:00 a.m. (Saturday).
