The Lincoln Rails had three divers this season – Torie Dotts, Cat Wruck and Emilie Skartvedt. The girls began season after practicing three times a week for most of the summer, including at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday mornings!
Torie Dotts: Torie was completely new to diving. Without any gymnastics or dance background, she found flying through the air while getting your body into the proper positions challenging at first. But after a lot of hard work – she became a polished diver. She developed a beautiful approach and dove elegant forward and inward dives. Twisting dives also became a strong group for Torie and she has the best back somersault with a half twist on the team. Torie learned seven dives this season.
Cat Wruck: Cat was also a new diver this season. She began the season with the ability to do somersaults and other tricks after years of diving for fun a public pools. Cat worked hard to learn proper high school diving techniques including the approach and back take-offs. Cat soon had the skills to do more difficult dives. Not only did Cat learn forwards, twists and backs. She also learned reverses and inwards – some of the more intimidating dives! Cat learned 11 dives this season.
Emilie Skartvedt: Emilie began diving in middle school but she took it to a new level in the past year. She dove club diving all off-season at lengthy practices, several days a week. There she learned great new skills to take her into the dive season, including a new approach style. Emilie also overcame some challenges this season including battling shin splits for a third of the season. She also worked on control and consistency – the two most difficult thing divers have to master. Emilie dove her best score ever (306.50) at the Conference Meet this year. There she earned a gold medal, beating the RHS second place diver by one point! Emilie also dove at Districts – just missing the state cut. She’s determined to make it next year!
The divers plan to work hard in the off-season to come back ready with new dives for next year. They’ve already set some high goals for next season including earning a diving letter and making it to state. Congrats divers on a great season!
