In 2011, the Lincoln Rails Women’s team had a great season. From every level of the team, there were huge time drops. Freshman IM swimmers Jordan Greenwood and Valeria Santiago finished the season with times in the 2:30′s, Abigail Contreras anchored the 4th fastest medley relay in school history and Molly Babowich dropped over 30 seconds in her 500 Free.
Sophomores Abby Harrison and Brittany Purscell both made a second trip to the state meet with Brittany becoming Lincoln’s first state champion for women’s swimming. Alex Bennett and Erica Shannon dropped significant time in their distance events. Emilie Skartvedt scored her best 11 dive meet ever and swam a new personal best in the 100 Back. Olivia Simpson developed into one the team’s best sprint freestylers dropping time in the 50 and 100 Free.
Junior Autum Song was a third year Varsity letter winner and claimed Top 5 spots in the IM and Fly. Torie Dotts earned her Varsity letter and dropped big time in the 100 Free. While Evan Chidley saw great improvement in her 500 and 200 Free times. Senior Cassandra Wruck finished her swimming and diving career with a great conference diving meet and setting a new personal best score.
The season ended with five girls earning spots to the state meet in Marshalltown. Brittany Purscell was the Breaststroke State Champion and the Medley Relay swam the 4th fastest time in Lincoln Women’s Swimming history!
