Recent History

In 2005, the girls’ swim team had 5 returning swimmers on the high school team. Since then, the team has held 20 team members in 2006, 2007, 2008, and the 2010 season. The girls swim team also brought home a Metro Conference Championship in 2006, the first one in school history. Each of the last five seasons, the team has been able finished first or second in the metro conference standings. Since 2005, Lincoln has sent a minimum of 3 events to the state meet, including 7 events two of those seasons. The 2012 team looks to be another great team to swim at Lincoln High School.

Coaching History

Des Moines Lincoln has a rich history of coaches that have trained the Women’s teams, Men’s teams, and a few that have directed both teams at the same time. Included in these coaches are two that have been honored as part of the Iowa Coaches Hall of Fame, and one that has been named the Iowa Coach of the Year in 1973.

The current Lincoln Pool was opened in 1967, before this opening, the coaches held practice at the old pool and as part of Des Moines Tech, now known as Central Campus. Many of these coaches have gone on to continue their support of swimming in Des Moines by becoming Officials of swim meets.
